It's been a while

Well, I set up my account and immediately got incredibly busy at work. So needless to say I haven't any additional entries. Let's change that right now.

I've wanted to write about the Star Wars movie for a while now. I'm a little tired of snooty Sci Fi geeks bad mouthing the 'weak characters', 'stilted dialog', and 'over reliance on special effects'. First off, Lucas has always patterned his movies on the saturday morning serials which were NOT high cinema. If you watch them, the the characters were not multi-dimensional and the dialog was a little campy. But that's some of their beauty. The same with the ALL of the episodes. Lucas was not going for realism, it is a FANTASY movie. As for the effects, I can remember as a 12 year old being totally immersed in the 1st movie. I even swayed when Luke swung his X-wing into the canyon. He has always push the limit of technology to help his viewers lose themselves in his universe.

If you're wanted deep thought Star Wars would not be my first choice in movies. Now one thing I didn't like about the latest movie was how seemingly easy it was for Anakin to turn to the dark side. But then I read the book (I always like the books better) and it became much clearer. But I don't hold that against Lucas. He has a time issue to deal with and I think he did a reasonably good job of it.

Well, I better finish up. I've got to back for a trip to Korea. I'm leaving very early in the morning. My flight leaves at 7am out of BWI, but my traveling companion didn't want to stay down by the airport tonight. So, now I have to get up REAL early to catch a 3:30 am limo at my work.
